100: Price breaks
Dave Nichols, 04/08/2003

This is a preliminary announcement for a new facility that will be available in build 21.1.43 when it's released.

The pricing system has been extended to automate the determination of prices that are based on list prices that are quantity sensitive (prices based on margins have always been quantity sensitive). The mechanism provides for general price breaks as well as customer specific ones.

There are 2 new defaults controlling this. In new systems, the price break mechanism is enabled as standard, i.e. defaults are YES. To revert legacy systems to the original semantics, set both to NO (see below).

List price is quantity sensitive (in the MC group): When YES, a look-up is done in the 'standard' part configurations (those with no customer) for an appropriate quantity break. If one is found the price method set in there is used. This allows non-customer specific price breaks to be setup by creating a series of standard part configurations.

Use Quantity Breaks (in the CS group): When YES, quote and order entry forms will, whenever the quantity is changed, do a look-up in the customer specific part configurations, looking for one with an appropriate quantity. If found, the initially selected customer part is changed to the one found and the price calculated using its settings. Thus by setting up a series of part configurations for the customer and product the system will automatically choose the 'correct' one based on the quantity.
