192: How to stop [The program publisher cannot be verified] security warnings
Dave Nichols, 03/07/2007
If you are running Windows XP SP2 with IE7 or Windows Vista you may see a security warning when you start Match-IT along the lines of "The program publisher cannot be verified. Are you sure you want to run this?". To stop this being asked each time you run Match-IT (or anything else on your local intranet) do the following:
Click the windows "Start" button, then "Run...", then type "gpedit.msc" into the prompt and press "OK".
The group policy editor will open.
Open the sections: User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Attachment Manager
Edit the "Default risk level for file attachments" such that it is enabled and set to "Moderate"
Edit the "Inclusion list for moderate risk files" such that it is enabled and set to include "*.exe"
What does this do?
It'll mean you are warned about executing files you download from the internet, but it'll just run files on your local intranet without asking first.
